San Francisco Things To Do
Don't Go To The Roman Spa Hot Springs Resort in Calistoga, North of SF
We were spurred to write this, since we found Roman Spa Hot Springs Resort online in the first place. What a disappointment! After our not-so-great experience, we've read ALL the reviews online for the Roman Spa, and found a bunch of negative reviews buried under way too many gushing, glowing reviews that sound like they're written by the same person. Anyway. Here's what happened to us; We found the web site for Roman Spa and thought this would be a romantic getaway. We called and made reservations. But when we arrived, we realized that the chunk of money that we devoted to this "resort" was actually going to be spent on a MOTEL! We drove up to the office, and the word "Motel" stared us straight in the face from the large sign. We walked the grounds, searching for the "gardens" they advertised. No gardens. Just a few plants in planters around the office and pool. So we used the "natural" hot springs pool. The water may be naturally heated, but my eyes were stinging from chlorine when we got out. So we went to our "European Inspired" room. What!? It was just a regular motel room. And very old and plain at that...no coffee maker, no iron, no amenities. The walls were so thin that the noise from other guests kept us awake all night. This place is not a resort. It is what the sign says...on the front of the building, the word they avoided using on their web page - just an old Motel!
